How to get alcohols from halides?

The simplest method is alkaline hydrolysis of halides.
Take 2-chlorobutane (CH3-CHCl-CH2-CH3) and place it in an alkaline medium (NaOH solution):
CH3-CHCl-CH2-CH3 + NaOH = (aq) = CH3-CHOH-CH2-CH3 + NaCl.
This method, in contrast to the acidic method (ions are formed), is irreversible – we get alcohol stable under normal conditions.
