How to prove that the rhizome and bulb are modified shoots?

Outwardly, the rhizome resembles a root, but, like a terrestrial shoot, it has apical and axillary buds, as well as filmy scales – modified leaves. Thus, the rhizome has a stem (axial part of the rhizome), buds and leaves (membranous scales), i.e. what is characteristic of an escape. On the bulb, we can also see all parts of the shoot: the stem (the bottom of the bulb), leaves (dry and juicy scales) and buds (between the scales). This confirms that the rhizome and bulb are modified shoots.
