How was bituminous coal formed?

The main part of coal, which is mined in our time, was formed about 300-350 million years ago. When tree ferns, horsetails, lymphoids and gymnosperms decomposed, they formed peat. Its deposits over time were submerged in the earth’s crust and with the help of high temperatures, strong pressure turned into coal.
