How was the army of Assyria organized?

The kings of ancient Assyria approached the organization of their army with all seriousness. In those days, the Assyrian army was divided into the following types: infantry, cavalry, engineering troops and the navy. The infantry, in turn, was divided into: light (lightly armed infantrymen, archers, throwers), heavy (it was a heavily armed and well-protected fighters). The cavalry was also light and heavy, and there were also chariots. Engineering troops were engaged in the service of battering guns, their main role was the storming of cities. Fleet – combat and transport ships.
