How was the Minoan civilization discovered?

The discovery of the Minoan civilization took place thanks to the archaeological research of the English scientist Arthur Evans, which began in 1900 on the island of Crete. Immediately after the start of excavations, the researcher discovered a monumental structure erected by representatives of a civilization unknown to science. In the course of further work, a feature of the structure was identified, namely, a structure similar to a labyrinth, which made it possible to identify it with the palace of the legendary Cretan king Minos, who gave the name to the culture discovered by Arthur Evans.
