| Answer: the perimeter of the rectangle will increase by 16 cm.
It is impossible to determine how many times the area will increase, since with different values of the sides of the rectangle, we will receive different values of the change in area.
Evidence:
1) We have a rectangle with sides 3 and 4 cm.
Let’s find its perimeter:
3 + 3 + 4 + 4 = 14 (cm) – the perimeter of the starting rectangle.
Let’s increase the sides of the rectangle by 4. We get:
3 + 4 = 7; 4 + 4 = 8.
The sides of the new rectangle are 7 and 8 cm.Let’s find its perimeter:
7 + 7 + 8 + 8 = 30 (cm) – the perimeter of the new rectangle.
Let’s find how much the perimeter has increased:
30 – 14 = 16 (cm).
