Important moments and hostilities in France in 1940.

The hostilities of the German army against France lasted only 42 days, from May 10 to June 22, 1940. In addition to France, England, Belgium, Holland fought with the Third Reich, Polish units subordinated to the émigré government in London and Luxembourg accidentally got into the war zone. Italy fought on the side of Germany since June 10, but there was no sense in it. At the first stage of hostilities, the French even tried to launch a counterstrike. On May 17-19 it was carried out by Charles de Gaulle. By June 4, the Allied forces were evacuated from the city of Dunkirk in Belgium, they left a huge amount of weapons on the shore. On June 5, the second stage of the campaign began. On that day, the Germans had a double superiority against the French army, along with which the British and Poles fought. On June 14, Paris surrendered without a fight, and the French government fled to the city of Bordeaux in the south of the country. Thus, June 5-12 can be considered a “breakout of the Weygand Line”. The French army surrendered by June 22, and hostilities ended on June 25.
