In a certain section of uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion (RUPD), the body’s speed increased 3 times and the body passed 20 m in 2 s. Determine the path traveled by the body in the next 2s.
Solution.
From the condition of the problem it is known that in a certain section of uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion the speed of the body vо increased 3 times and became v₁ = 3 ∙ vо, while the body passed the path S₁ = 20 m in time t₁ = 2 seconds. For uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion, the following formula is valid:
S₁ = (vо + v₁) ∙ t₁ / 2, then:
vо = S₁ / (2 ∙ t₁);
vо = 20 / (2 ∙ 2);
vо = 5 m / s;
v₁ = 3 ∙ 5;
v₁ = 15 m / s.
We find the acceleration of the body by the formula:
a = (v₁– vо) / t₁;
a = (15 – 5) / 2;
a = 5 m / s².
In the next t₂ = 2 seconds, the body will cover the path S₂ = v₁ ∙ t₂ + a ∙ t₂² / 2. Substitute the values of physical quantities into the formula and make calculations:
S₂ = 15 ∙ 2 + 5 ∙ 2² / 2;
S₂ = 40 m.
Answer: The body will pass 40 meters in the next 2 seconds.
