| In a right-angled triangle, the median, drawn to the hypotenuse, is 5 cm, the length of one leg is 6 cm, find the area of the right-angled triangle.
The median drawn to the hypotenuse divides this hypotenuse in half.
And since the median is known, the hypotenuse will be twice as large.
5 + 5 = 10 cm.
By the Pythagorean theorem, we find the second leg.
10 ^ 2 – 6 ^ 2 = 100 – 36 = 64. The root of √64 is 8.
Now we find the area. The area in a right-angled triangle is half the product of the legs.
S = 1/2 x 6 x 8 = 1/2 x 48 = 24 cm square.
