| In a triangle, one side is 8 less than the other and 4 less than a third. Find the length of the sides of the rectangle if its pyrimiter is 54.
Write the smallest side of the triangle as x.
Since the second side is 8 cm larger than the first, its length will be: x + 8 cm.
The third side will be equal to: x + 4.
The perimeter is the sum of all sides, so we get the equation:
x + x + 8 + x + 4 = 54.
3 * x = 54 – 12.
3 * x = 42.
x = 42/3 = 14 cm (first side).
x + 8 = 14 + 8 = 22 cm (second side).
x + 4 = 14 + 4 = 18 cm (third side).
Answer: The lengths of the sides of the triangle are 14, 22 and 18 cm.
