In an isosceles trapezoid ABCD of the base ВС = 2 cm and AD = 20 cm. From the apex В to the base AD, the height BH is lowered. Find HD.

Let’s draw the second height of the CК to the base AD. Since the trapezoid is isosceles, the heights are cut off equal segments on a larger base, AH = DK.

AD = AH + НK + DK = 2 * AH + 2.

20 = 2 * AH + 2.

AH = DK = 18/2 = 9 cm.

Then НD = НК + DК = 2 + 9 = 11 cm.

Answer: Section НD = 11 cm.
