Since the triangle is isosceles, therefore AB = BC and hence BC: AC is also equal to 5: 2. We make an equation. Let AB = BC = 5x, then AC = 2x. We get:
5x + 5x + 2x = 48;
12x = 48;
Hence x = 48/12 = 4;
Find the sides:
AB = BC = 5x = 5 * 4 = 20;
AC = 2x = 2 * 4 = 8;
AB = 20; BC = 20; AC = 8.
