Consider a triangle ABC (let it be so :), it is isosceles (by condition), => angle (at the base) BAC = angle BCA = 54. Since the sum of the angles of the triangle is 180 degrees, we find the angle between the sides – ABC: 180-54 -54 = 72 degrees.
