1. Let us introduce the designation of the vertices of the triangle by the symbols A, B, C. The base is AC.
2. Triangle ABC is isosceles. Consequently, its lateral sides AB and BC are equal.
3. We calculate the length of the lateral side of the triangle ABC using the formula for calculating the perimeter:
AB + BC + AC = 10 cm.
We substitute AB instead of BC into this formula:
2AB + 4 = 10 centimeters.
AB = (10 – 4) / 2 = 3 centimeters.
Answer: The length of each of the two lateral sides AB and BC is 3 centimeters.
