| In an isosceles triangle, the lateral side is 2 cm less than the base. The perimeter of the triangle is 32cm. Find the sides of the triangle.
Let x be the lateral side of an isosceles triangle;
Then 2 + x is the base of an isosceles triangle;
We get the equation for the perimeter:
x + x + (2 + x) = 32 cm;
3x + 2 = 32 cm;
3x = 32 – 2;
3x = 30;
x = 30/3;
x = 10 cm – sides;
x + 2 = 10 + 2 = 12 cm – the base of the triangle.
