In four test tubes the following substances are given in solid form: a) magnesium chloride; b) sodium hydroxide; c) sodium carbonate; d) sodium nitrate. With the help of chemical reactions, a determinant in which test tube is each of these substances?

These substances can be distinguished by dissolving them in water and pouring a solution of silver nitrate into all test tubes:

а. MgCl2 + 2AgNO3 = 2AgCl ↓ + Mg (NO3) 2 – a white curdled precipitate will fall out in a test tube with magnesium chloride.

b. 2NaOH + 2AgNO3 = Ag2O ↓ + H2O + 2NaNO3 – a brown precipitate will form in the test tube with sodium hydroxide.

с. Na2CO3 + 2AgNO3 = Ag2CO3 ↓ + 2NaNO3 – a yellowish crystalline precipitate will form in a test tube with sodium carbonate.

d. Sodium nitrate will not react with silver nitrate.
