1. Let’s denote the first factor by the variable x, and the second – by the variable y. Their product is xy.
2. Find x after increasing it by 100%.
x + x / 100% × 100% = x + x = 2x.
3. Find y after decreasing it by 50%.
y – y / 100% × 50% = y – 1 / 2y = 1 / 2y.
4. Find the product of the factors after changing them.
2x × 1 / 2y = (2 × 1/2) xy = xy.
5. Let’s compare the original work with the new one.
xy = xy.
Answer: if one multiplier is increased by 100%, and the second is reduced by 50%, their product will not change.
