In the same burners in the same vessels, water and oil of the same mass
In the same burners in the same vessels, water and oil of the same mass are heated for the same time. The temperature of which substance will increase by more degrees?
The heat balance equation Q = mc (Tc-Tn) can be rewritten as:
Tк-Тн = Q / (mc),
or
Tк-Тн = (Q / m) * (1 / s) (1),
where Q is the amount of heat given off by the burner,
m – mass,
c – specific heat,
Tк – final temperature,
Tн – initial temperature.
From (1) it can be seen that for equal Q and m, the temperature difference will be greater for a body with a lower heat capacity (c is in the denominator). The specific heat capacity of oil is approximately two times less than the specific heat capacity of water; therefore, the temperature difference for oil will be greater.
Answer: The oil temperature will rise by more degrees.
