| In the trapezium, one of the bases is 2 times larger than the other. The middle line is 15 cm. Find the bases of the trapezoid?
The middle line of a trapezoid is a segment that connects the midpoints of its lateral sides. It is parallel to the bases and is equal to half of their sum:
m = (BC + AD) / 2.
Since the base of the blood pressure is twice the base of the BC, and the length of the midline is 15 cm, we express them as follows:
x is the length of the smaller base of the BC;
2x – the length of the greater base of the blood pressure;
(x + 2x) / 2 = 15;
x + 2x = 15 2;
3x = 30;
x = 30/3 = 10;
BC = 10 cm;
AD = 2 10 = 20 cm.
Answer: the bases of this trapezoid are 10 cm and 20 cm.
