AB – hypotenuse, BC and AC – legs. By definition, the cosine of an acute angle of a right-angled triangle is the ratio of the adjacent leg to the hypotenuse, therefore:
cos B = BC / AB, whence AB = BC / cos B.
For our conditions, we have:
AB = 3 / 0.6 = 5.
Answer: AB = 5 units.
