In tomatoes, high growth dominates over low, and a rounded shape over a pear-shaped one.

In tomatoes, high growth dominates over low, and a rounded shape over a pear-shaped one. When analyzing crosses, 4 phenotypes were obtained: 388 high rounded, 412 low pear-shaped, 104 high pear-shaped, 96 low round. Determine in percentage how many tall plants with rounded fruits will turn out when crossing the first and third phenotypes.

Let’s designate the gene for high growth of tomatoes as C, then the gene for short stature of these plants will be c.

Let us designate the gene that determines the development of a round fruit in tomatoes as P, then the pear-shaped gene will be p.

Analyzing crossing means crossing a heterozygote with a homozygote for a recessive trait.

In this case, the CcPp heterozygote will be a tall tomato with a rounded fruit. Such a plant will produce sex cells cp, cp, cp and cp.

A digomozygote for a recessive gene will be recorded as ccpp, have short stature and pear-shaped fruits. Such tomatoes produce reproductive cells of the same type cf.

The offspring from crossing the above tomatoes will look like:

tall tomatoes with rounded fruit (CCPP)

tall tomatoes with pear-shaped fruit (Ссpp)

low tomatoes with rounded fruit (ssRp)

low pear-shaped tomatoes (ccpp).

When crossing high rounded (CCPP, gametes – CP) with high pear-shaped (Ccpp, gametes – Cp and cp), we get the offspring of two genotypic variants with a common phenotype:

50% – CCPp: tall tomatoes with round fruits;

50% – СсРp: tall tomatoes with round fruits.

Answer: 100% of tomatoes will have round fruits and high growth.
