We know that ABC is a right-angled triangle (angle C = 90gr). The tangent in a right-angled triangle is the ratio of the opposite leg to the adjacent leg. In this problem, the tangent and the opposite leg are known, then it will not be difficult to find the second leg:
tg A = 3
BC / AC = 3
AC = 18/3
AC = 6
Answer: AC = 6
