In triangles ABC, angle C is 90, angle A is 45 AB is 4, find BC.

A triangle in which one of the angles is 90º is called rectangular.

In order to calculate the length of the BC leg, we use the theorem of sines. The sine of an acute angle of a right triangle is the ratio of the opposite leg to the hypotenuse:

sin A = BC / AB;

BC = AB ∙ sin A;

sin 45º = √2 / 2 ≈ 0.707;

BC = 4 ∙ 0.707 ≈ 2.8 cm.

Answer: the length of the BC leg is 2.8 cm.
