Let us express the amount of oil that is inside each tanker, for which we will use the variable a.

Therefore, the amount of oil inside the first tanker after the change, we can express in the form (a – 29), and inside the second (a + 29).

Since we know that in this case there will be twice as much oil in the second tanker, then we have the opportunity to draw up an equation and find how much oil is inside both tankers:

2 (a – 29) = a + 29;

a = 87;

87 * 2 = 174.
