According to the form of nutrition, it can be:

2. Consumable (consuming organic substances), for example, animals.
3. Reducing agent (decomposing organic matter), for example, microorganisms.
By its number, a species in a biogeocenosis can be:
1. Dominant (dominant species).
2. The predominant, (living off the dominants).
