In what state are the particles of matter located in a strictly defined order?

Any substance consists of many particles, which are atoms, molecules, ions. When the temperature changes, this substance can pass from one state to another and acquire some form: solid, liquid, gaseous and also plasma.

Particles of a substance have a strictly defined order only in a solid state. Since then they cannot move near each other due to the very small distance between the molecules (less than the diameter of the molecules themselves), but only rotate and vibrate. Therefore, solids have a high order of structure, which makes it possible not to change their shape and volume.
