However, the Persians were defeated in the Greco-Persian Wars. It all started with the Battle of Marathon, where the Athenians were able to defeat their opponents for the first time. Thanks to this, other cities rallied around Athens. After the defeat of the Persians in Greece, the war was transferred to the territory of Asia Minor and ultimately ended with the victory of the Greeks.
