In what ways did Richelieu act to get things done?

Cardinal Richelieu was a very intelligent man and wielded considerable power. To achieve his goals, he often used bribery, murder, intrigue. The interests of France were the most important for him, and therefore he was not upset that he was hated by the highest aristocracy and the country’s population, which was framed by the highest taxes. He went down in history as a prudent, tough, stern, far-sighted cardinal holding the reins of government in his hands.
