In what ways is information transmitted from one nerve cell to another?

Information from one nerve cell to another is transmitted through an electrical impulse (this is one of the most important properties of nerve tissue – the ability to generate and transmit an electrical impulse). The impulse is generated in the body of the neuron, then moves along the long process of the neuron – the axon. The axon, in turn, makes contact with a short branched outgrowth of another neuron (dendrite), along which the impulse reaches the body of the second neuron.
