In what year did Vasco da Gama reach the shores of India?

Vasco da Gama was by no means the first Portuguese to go to India. Before him, Portuguese sailors constantly made long voyages along the coast of Africa, gradually moving further and further east and documenting all their misadventures. Maps were made. A gradual advance began in the 13th century. And by the end of the 15th century, by the time of the beginning of the era of the great geographical discoveries, a lot of experience had been accumulated, and excellent ships had been created. That allowed to reach the shores of India on May 20, 1498. It happened in the city of Calicut (now – Kozhikode).
