Slavery throughout the United States was abolished back in 1865, after the famous 13th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted. This happened after the end of the civil war in this country. This amendment to the constitution took a very long time. Even earlier, in 1862, the head of the United States, Lincoln, issued a document on the emancipation of slaves. After slavery was abolished, crime increased dramatically in the southern states.
