In which city of Ancient Greece a statue was erected to ordinary citizens who rebelled against tyranny.

The event, as a result of which the statue was erected to ordinary citizens of Greece, happened in 514 BC. Two Athenians Harmodius and Aristogeiton made an assassination attempt against the tyrants of Athens, Hippias and Hipparchus. The protest against tyranny took place during the celebration of the feast of Panathinea. As a result of the assassination attempt, Hipparchus was killed, but during the attack Harmodius was stabbed to death by the tyrant’s bodyguards. Aristogiton managed to escape, but later he was caught, and during torture, Hippias killed the conspirator with a sword.
In 510 BC. after the overthrow of the tyranny in Athens, on the famous acropolis, the instigators of the coup against the tyrants erected a twin monument cast in bronze. Their descendants were exempt from taxes.
