The human digestive tract consists of several important sections. Depending on the structure of the intestinal wall or stomach, all sections have their own functions. It is the length of the digestive tube, in combination with different purposes, that allows a person to digest a wide variety of food products as efficiently as possible. In the final section of the intestine, called the colon, fluid is reabsorbed. Due to this, dense feces are formed. If the process of reabsorption is severely impaired, then the person’s stool becomes liquid. This is called diarrhea and can lead to severe dehydration.
