In which state were the citizens responsible before the law called persons?

“Person” – (lat. Rrsōna “personality”) – this was the name of the subject of private law in ancient Rome. In order to obtain the status of a “person” and the corresponding rights, a person had to meet these criteria: he must be a free man, not a slave, be a citizen of Ancient Rome, and not a foreigner and be an independent head of the family. If a person met these requirements, then he was recognized as a person, and he was endowed with legal capacity. The rest were not recognized as subjects of law (for example, slaves were considered not a subject, but an object of Roman law).
