Interaction of mycelium with plant roots.

The interaction of mycelium fungi and plant roots is called mycorrhiza. There are more than three hundred thousand plant species on Earth, and only about ten percent of this number can do without symbiosis with mushrooms. This means that mycorrhiza plays an important role, as it provides plants with useful substances – enzymes, vitamins, growth hormones. Without mycorrhiza, plants can grow poorly, develop normally, and even die. For example, when planting a forest, say in the steppe or in another treeless area, it is advisable to add a little forest soil when planting, containing elements of mycelium and spores of symbiont fungi.
