Substances are a mixture of atoms. And atoms are composed of particles: protons (“+” charge) and electrons (“-” charge) and neutrons (no charge). The nucleus consists of protons and neutrons, it is positive, electrons are circling around it in orbits. In n.u. the number of protons and electrons is the same, so the atoms as a whole are electrically neutral. But with friction, some electrons can transfer between bodies. The body that donates electrons is charged positively, and the body that accepts them is negatively charged.
