Kinetic energy is a scalar quantity, it has no direction. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion, the body is moving, which means it has kinetic energy. A body that is at rest has no kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy is determined by the formulas:
– for translational motion: Ek = m * V ^ 2/2, where m is the mass of the body, V is the speed of movement.
– for rotational motion: Ek = I * W ^ 2/2, where I is the moment of inertia of the body that rotates, W is the angular velocity of motion.
