Leading political and opposition forces in France during the Revolution.

During the French Revolution, several political forces can be distinguished that competed among themselves for control in the governing bodies of the republic. The most popular and famous were the Jacobins, of which Maximilian Robespierre was a prominent representative. They were opposed by the Girondists, who were a group of Jacobin deputies expelled from the club in 1792. Less popular representatives were the Feuillants, who disappeared after the execution of the king, and the Cordillera – who supported the terror of the Jacobins in 1793-1794. All of them were opposed by the royalists.
