Global warming. For decades, environmental scientists have warned us that CO₂ emissions from fossil fuels are affecting the planet’s ecosystem.

Not all ways of influencing the ecosystem of people are negative. Every time you recycle used paper, plastic or metal, or pick up trash from the sidewalk, you are making a positive impact on the environment. Others spend their time and energy on big projects to positively change the ecosystem. For example, in 2011, a 16-year-old inventor named Boyan Slat created a device that can remove plastic from the ocean.
