List the main functions of the plant stem.

All higher plants have stems, but they have a huge variety in length, thickness, etc. They are located below or above the ground, and can be vertical or horizontal in relation to the root system. Their main purpose is to connect the roots with the rest of the plant (fox, buds, flowers, fruits), since the minerals and water obtained from the roots go up through the stem. Also, the stem performs a supporting function, and therefore this part of the plant is very strong.
