Fish have the following brain regions:
The forebrain is the two hemispheres that are responsible for smell and schooling behavior of fish.
The diencephalon is the center for switching excitations coming from all parts of the brain, the optic nerves depart from this particular part
Midbrain – the oculomotor nerves branch off from it. It is the center of vision, it regulates muscle tone and body balance.
The cerebellum is responsible for the movements of fish, which are associated with swimming and hunting for prey.
The medulla oblongata is the most important part, its nerves are responsible for the respiratory organs, balance and auditory, touch, lateral line sensory organs, heart, digestion. It goes into the spinal cord.
