Main events, nature and results of the Dutch revolution of the 17th century.
The Dutch Revolution, or the so-called Eighty Years War, began in 1566. It is customary to divide it into two periods. The second period falls on the 17th century. By the beginning of the century after the first period of the revolution, the Northern Territories practically gained independence. Later, the independent northern lands began to support the liberation of the southern lands from Spanish rule. The hostilities proceeded with varying degrees of success, in 1625 a Dutch fortress was captured. And 4 years later, a large city was taken, which was under the rule of Spain, then several more significant cities. In 1648, a peace was signed, which recognized the independence of the northern provinces, and the weakening of Spain’s power in the south.
