Make an equation: FeS → S → So2 → So3 → BaSO4
In order to carry out chemical transformations along the presented homologous series, we need to carry out five chemical reactions.
The first is the interaction of sulfur and iron. An iron sulfide salt is formed.
S + Fe = FeS
The second reaction takes place between the salt of iron sulfide and oxygen we received. As a result of this chemical process, ferric oxide and tetravalent sulfur oxide are formed.
4 FeS + 7 O2 = 2 Fe2O3 + 4 SO2
For further transformations, we need tetravalent sulfur oxide and oxygen. We get hexavalent sulfur oxide as a result of the compound reaction.
2 SO2 + O2 = 2 SO3
The reaction takes place between substances such as hexavalent sulfur oxide and water. Sulfuric acid is formed.
SO3 + H2O —> H2SO4
Sulfuric acid reacts with the barium chloride salt to form the barium sulfate hydrochloric acid salt.
H2SO4 + BaCl2 = BaSO4 + 2 HCl.
