Make the reaction equations: methane → methanal → methanol → dimethyl ether → carbon dioxide
Let’s carry out the solution of the chain of transformations for organic substances:
CH4 – CH2O – CH3OH – CH3 – O – CH3 – CO2
CH4 + Cl2 = CH3Cl + HCl – substitution, methane chloride is released;
CH3Cl + KOH = CH3OH + KCl – exchange, methanol was obtained;
CH3OH + CuO = H – COH + Cu + H2O – alcohol oxidation with copper oxide, methanal was formed;
Н – СОН + Н2 = СН3 – ОН – reduction, methanol is released;
CH3OH + CH3OH = CH3 – O – CH3 + H2O – esterification, dimethyl ether (C2H6O) was obtained;
С2Н6О + 3О2 = 2СО2 + 3Н2О + Q – combustion, carbon dioxide is released.
The solution shows the relationship between organic and inorganic substances using the example of methane, carbon monoxide. The reaction products are of practical importance, for example, dimethyl ether is used as diesel fuel.
