The father of the family had absolute power over all household members: he had the right to execute them, sell 8 slavery, and so on. Arable land, as well as land (meadows, pastures) were owned by the entire patrician community. Individual families had only the right to own them, not private property. The patrician clans were exogamous, that is, members of the same clan were not allowed to marry.
