1) Chloroethane from ethane is obtained by interaction with chlorine under light:
C2H6 + Cl2 → C2H5Cl + HCl;
2) When chloroethane interacts with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, ethanol and sodium chloride are formed:
C2H5Cl + NaOH → C2H5OH + NaCl;
3) Acetic acid from ethanol is obtained using a catalyst – K2Cr2O7:
C2H5OH → CH3COOH;
4) Acetic acid reacts with chlorine and it turns out – chloroacetic acid and hydrochloric acid (with the help of a catalyst – red phosphorus):
CH3COOH + Cl2 → CH2ClCOOH + HCl;
5) Chloroacetic acid reacts with ammonia and gives – glycine and ammonium chloride:
CH2ClCOOH + NH3 → CH2NH2COOH + NH4Cl.
