C3H8O + Ag2O = CH3 – CH2 – COOH + 2Ag – propanal oxidation;
CH3 – CH2 – COOH + CH3 – OH = CH3 – CH2 – COO – CH3 + H2O – esterification, propionic acid methyl ester is released.
The reaction products are of practical importance, for example chloropropane, propanol and propionic acid methyl ester are used as solvents.
