Many amoebas distinguish edible particles from inedible ones. How do you think they do it?

I believe that the ability of many of the simplest amoebas to distinguish edible from inedible particles is a consequence of the fact that they have well-developed chemotactic processes. The thin membrane that covers the amoeba allows you to recognize the taste of this or that object that comes across. Thanks to their chemoreceptors located on a thin membrane, amoebas distinguish between what can be eaten and what is better to avoid.
