Mixed 150 g of 10% and 650 g of 15% sugar solutions. Calculate the mass fraction of sugar in the resulting solution.

To determine the mass fraction of a substance after diluting or mixing solutions, we use the formula:

W (in-va) = (W1 • m1) + (W2 • m2) / m1 + m2.

where W1 and W2 are the mass fraction of the substance in the first and second solution, respectively.

W (sugar) = (10% • 150 g) + (15% • 650 g) / 150 g + 650 g = 14%.

This means that the resulting solution will contain 14% sugar and have a mass of 800 g.
