Most acids dissolve well in water?

Most acids are really water soluble. This happens because water is a polar solvent (in a water molecule, the electron density along covalent bonds is shifted towards the oxygen atom), i.e. there is a weak negative charge at the oxygen end, and a weak positive charge at the hydrogen end. Acids in a polar solvent decompose into two ions: hydrogen with a plus charge goes to the negative end of the water, and an acidic residue with a minus charge goes to the positive one.
